Child Support: What Survivors, Advocates, and DSHS Workers Have to Say

This article outlines five main criticisms and concerns about the child support system in Washington. Three groups contributed to the analysis: survivors of domestic violence talked about their personal experiences with child support during focus group discussions, advocates talked about what they have seen through their advocacy practice, and in conversations and during training sessions, DSHS workers talked about gaps and misunderstandings. This paper compiles feedback from all sources and includes recommendations for actions that DSHS can take to rectify the problems that all parties identified.
